Q: I can't sign into iCloud  from my system preferences

A few weeks ago, my iCloud Calendar on my MacBook Air stopped syncing and the warning triangle appeared next to it. The calendars on my iPad and iPhone are still syncing perfectly. The only way I can access my calendar on my Mac is to go directly to the iCloud website, however, I prefer to use my Calendar App directly from the Dock, as I always have, until now.

My OS X is Yosemite 10.10.2

Calendar is Version 8.0 (2032.6.1)

Here are the 'trouble shooting' steps I have taken so far:

  • Restarted my computer (numerous times)
  • Checked my Apple ID and password are working on iTunes and App Store (which they are)
  • Checked the iCloud service status (no problems there)
  • Removed my ICloud Calendar from my Mac (and now it won't reinstall because I can't sign into iCloud)
  • Tried to sign back into iCloud  on my Mac, via System Preferences > iCloud and also System Preferences > Internet Accounts. I keep getting a message saying "Can't sign in at this time - please try again"

The problem does not appear to be with iCloud itself, it seems my OS will not allow me to connect to it.

I am now at a loss as to what to try next. can someone please help me ?

Thank you for your response iWOO...

I had already checked the date and time and had tried everything (within my limited knowledge) that I could.

I had assumed  it would be something quite simple that I had overlooked, which is why I posted on this forum, in the hope that someone else had experienced the same issue and resolved it.

I had also trawled through all the relevant subjects in Apple Support, as you suggested and none of it had helped.

In the end, I called Apple Support directly, who were absolutely amazing and eventually solved the issue for me. I'm so pleased I called them because it took two experts more than an hour to pinpoint the issue and resolve it.

They talked me through every step of the (many) processes, as they eliminated possible causes until they found the issue. They even shared my screen and made sure I didn't accidentally do something I shouldn't.

In a million years I would not have been able to do it without them.

As frustrating as the experience has been, it has reminded me why I switched to Apple in 2008, why I love it so much and would never go back. The level of service and Customer Care is second to none.

    Huge thanks to Apple

It's been so long ago, I can't remember the specifics. It was far too complex for me to have managed on my own, but it seem to recall it was something to do with some old cache's that were locking me out, and once they were identified and removed, it's worked like a dream ever since.

If you're having  similar issues, I'd highly recommend calling Apple Support. They can access your machine remotely and pinpoint the problem, then they guide you through fixing it.... Good Luck!!
