Convert VHS to Digital with Mac

Hi,

Can anybody suggest the best way forward to convert a VHS to digital on a Mac?

I have done this in the past on a windows system, but the software didn't have a Mac alternative and it only coded to .mpg - by the time I have recorded the footage to windows, then converted the .mpg to a FCPX friendly format, I have lost too much quality in the recording.

Any value for money and flexible options would be great - I want a product that delivers great results but doesn't leave a great hole in my wallet.

If you have an analog to digital converter, you should be able to bring the converted file into FCP or iMovie as DV, which is about as good as you're going to get. Check out the Grass Valley and Blackmagic products for relatively inexpensive solutions that are supported by Macs. (It's also possible to use some mini DV cameras to do the A?D conversion.)
