SMB access crashes OSX (10.10)

Hello,

since upgrading our OSX machines to 10.10 (and even 10.9) we are experiencing crashes of the whole system, when trying to access SMB shares on a netapp appliance. These crashes occur irregularly and cannot be reproduced in a "troubleshootable" manner.

Our clients are working in a business environment. The programs used are Office for Mac 2011 and Microsoft SCEP Anti-Virus.

At first we thought, that these crashes might be related to Apples switch from SMB 1.0 to SMB 2.0 in 10.9. We tried forcing the connection to the Netapp Appliance to use SMB 1.0 via using the "cifs://" command, instead of "smb://". Unfortunately, this did not change anything.

In another attempt, we tried removing the Anti-Virus and hence the realtime-protection (and realtime-access) of Microsofts SCEP Scanner. Again, no luck here, some Macs are still crashing. The fun part is, that this error does not occur on all systems. Crash logs name different applications, which are to be responsible for the crash - but the only common experience is the fact, that the system crashes, while trying to open a (MS-)file on the share.

Does anybody have similar experiences? Or maybe some suggestions where else to look for a solution?

That panic wasn't caused by any third-party software, and since it's happening on several devices, it wasn't caused by a hardware fault or random system corruption either. That leaves corruption in the SMB share(s) and/or a bug in OS X as the possibilities. In general, Apple's SMB client has less than perfect compatibility with other implementations of the protocol.

We've had 3 users with random crashing and restarts using Adobe CS6 and Mac Office 2011, also on 10.10 OSX and 10.9 OSX.

This is using CIFS and SMB on NetApp as of earlier this year.

I'll let you know if we find anything
