mighty mouse won't open dashboard

For the last year or so, my mighty mouse no longer opens dashboard or any other program as it did when I first got my iMac. It scrolls just fine, and the left and right buttons function perfectly. I have gone into settings several times to try to correct the issue, disconnected/re-connected the mouse, etc, but the problem persists.

Any suggestions of correcting this? I rather like the ability to open dashboard by clicking the scroll ball.

iMac, Mac OS X (10.5.5), 2 GHz dual core, 3 GB RAM

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. Based on what you stated, it sounds like the mouse button is not doing what it is assigned to do. It looks like you have already done some troubleshooting. I would recommend that you read these articles, they may be helpful in troubleshooting your issue.

Have you tried cleaning the "ball?" The way to do this is first disconnect the mouse from the keyboard. Rub the ball all around vigorously on white paper. Wipe w/a damp cloth. Let dry for a few minutes before plugging back onto the keyboard. Clean the mouse like this once a week.
