A thin blue line on my iPhone 4S?

Hi.

Today I woke up to see a thin blue line on my iPhone 4S screen.

I did not drop my phone, nor did I even charge it over night. I just left it on.
The blue line looks like this:

(I recreated the image, since it doesn't appear if I take a screenshot, meaning this is a screen problem.)

I have tried restarting my phone, but that hasn't helped. The line appears all the time, no matter if I'm in an app or looking at the home screen.

I'm not sure how this happened, as it just appeared all of a sudden, but I'm wondering if anyone knows a fix for this?
My warranty for my phone has run out, unfortunately. =/
Thanks.

Did you also try to reset the phone by holding the sleep and home button for about 10sec, until the Apple logo comes back again?

You will not lose any data by resetting, but it can cure some glitches.

If this does not help, and to rule out a software problem, setting it up as new device would be the next step:

Use iTunes to restore your iOS device to factory settings - Apple Support

If still no luck, the phone needs to be serviced, but since Apple does not offer to replace the screen for an iPhone 4s, you would have to pay the service fee to replace the whole device.

Out-of-warranty repair service
If your repair isn’t covered by Apple’s One Year Limited Warranty, AppleCare+, or AppleCare Protection Plan, your iPhone might be eligible for out-of-warranty service. For example, liquid damage isn’t covered by warranty but might be eligible for out-of-warranty service. Some damage isn’t eligible at all, for example if your device has been broken into multiple pieces. See Apple’s Repair Terms and Conditions for complete details.
Read Apple’s Repair Terms and Conditions

Model Out-of-warranty service fee Battery service*

iPhone 6 $299
iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5 $269

Hi, and thanks for the replies, you two.

I did try to reset by holding the holding the sleep and home button, yes. Twice even. I will try to restore the phone to factory settings next then.

If that doesn't work, I'll see what Genius Bar can tell me. But I don't think I'd be willing to pay as much as $200 to get this fixed, sadly. =/
Because I've been planning to get an iPhone 5S soon anyway. I'm just sad that this probably means I can't sell or trade in my phone in the process. Unless there are those who buy faulty iPhones somewhere. Do Apple perhaps accept faulty iPhone in some sort of trade in program for new iPhones?
