Hi, I can't seem to start up my iMac. This happened after I plugged in a seagate 4tb hard disk to set up a back up. The computers attempts to boot up and shuts down half way through the process. Can you help please?

I'm sorry to hear you are having these issues. I also apologize, I'm a bit unclear on exactly what you are seeing. If by quitting half way through booting up you mean that it never gets past the grey Apple screen, you may find the information and troubleshooting steps outlined in the following article helpful:
