Feb 16, 2015 3:21 PM in response to sbermanby lorrainefromcolumbus,Thanks. So, what is the best way to manage iTunes purchases for a family? I have young teenagers, and eventually they're going to want to take at least their own music purchases with them. So far, since I've been paying for virtually everything, I've done this all with my apple id. Would it make a difference if in future they made their own purchases with their own apple ids? As I understand it, with Family Sharing, we'd all be able to access each other's music while we're under the same roof. Any advice?

The best way is to avoid the iTunes Store altogether, and buy all music from Amazon Digital Music. Add the MP3s to the appropriate iTunes library(ies).
When someone leaves home, they take a copy of what is theirs, which they can do independently of any Apple ID restrictions. This avoids most of the problems that plague people on this forum night after night. That's right: Amazon.
