Storage issue

Im new to mac so this question might be really dumb. I bought a 13 in retina display mac 120 gb very recently OS X. I downloaded Java and Adobe flash. I also downloaded the wrong version of java twice but i put them in my trash bin and deleted them. And i downloaded Skype. It says there is already 20 gb of storage used up and 11gb of the 20gb are under the category of "other." Apps only has 5gb used up. The "other" category seems to be rising slowly every time I look. Is this normal??? Thanks
