I tunes stopped restore before finished

I had big problems to sync pictures from my PC to my iPad2. It always stopped at "waiting for the changes to be finished" (sorry, translated from German, don't know the original message in English) or it said the connection to my iPad was disconnected. So I decided to do a restore. Just before it was finished there was a short info synchronizing aborted and my iPad was frozen with the apple logo.

I had uninstalled all iTunes tools as described somewhere here on this site and installed the lates version brand new. I will try a restore again tonight but what is wrong with iTunes for not synching anymore?
