check mail on wifi and 4g

My iphone shifted from getting mail on wifi and 4g to only fetching mail when connected to wifi. This change developed after the latest ios update. How do I re-configure to fetch mail on demand?

iPhone 6, iOS 8.1.3

Hi nwphil,

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!

I understand that your Mail account use to work correctly on both Wi-Fi and 4G, but recently it is only working on Wi-Fi. To begin troubleshooting, I would suggest working through the basic troubleshooting steps in the attached article.

Get help with Mail on iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support

First, try these basic troubleshooting steps:

  1. To make sure that you're connected to the Internet, open Safari and go to www.apple.com.
  2. Log in to your email provider's website to make sure that the account is active and the password is correct.
  3. Make sure your settings are correct using Mail Settings Lookup.
  4. Restart your iOS device.
  5. Delete the affected email account from your device.
    1. Tap Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
    2. Tap the affected email account.
    3. Tap Delete Account.
    4. Add your account again.

If you are receiving any of the other alerts mentioned in the article, please follow those steps as well. Please let me know if the issue continues.

Best regards,

Joe
