Would it not be good to list some major points on syncing iTunes to a Touch or iPhone?

I had an Applecare screen-sharing session this afternoon, to find why I had synced playlist NAMES to my iPod G4, but no music. They were empty.

IT'S COMPLICATED. I did think to take 4 screenshots of "how things should look" (songs and boxes checked, unchecked, the summary, etc.) so maybe I can do it myself next time.

I tried Apple discussions, but they didn't get back to me. I looked at 3 or 4 tutorials on YouTube, but no help there, either.

This is with Yosemite, and OS 6.1.6 on the Touch.

Everything ok now, but I never would have gotten it fixed without Applecare.
