7th Generation iPod Nano stops working exactly 1 min into fitness workout

My 7th generation iPod nano stops at exactly 1 minute into fitness workout. Have to hit resume to restart and it stops again at exactly 1 min. later. States Activity Stopped. Pausing workout. Have reset to factory settings but did not resolve it.
