Want to use AirPlay to send music to an old receiver and speakers incorporating an AirPlay receiver. Any suggestions on brand of receiver to connect to the receiver/amplifier/speakers which will receive music from iPad?

As a receiver I use

1) HTC One m8

2) kodi helix (kodi.tv)

and everything is super, other android devices were slow, buggy, and later reacted and m8 I was pleased. For example the fact that when a video is playing, the sound from the air play is not far behind even for a second, synchronized probably p.s. If you old receiver has optical inputs you can use Apple TV or Amazon Fire TV or any computer as AirPlay receiver.

I initially was using my Mac Mini running AirServer application as AirPlay receiver.

Now I'm using Amazon Fire TV running AirReceiver application (does not work for copyright protected videos).

All devices connected to the AV receiver using optical cable + HDMI connection to the TV itself.

Adds complexity and some unreliability, but usually works fine.

In theory each "old" computer having an audio outlet should do the trick.

Just use a 3.5mm cinch to stereo cinch (don't know how it's called...the usual red/white connectors) to connect the computer to your receiver.

You just need an Airplay receiver App running on it.

For example AirServer runs on Windows computers. There may be other applications running on older Windows or Linux machines, too.

Good chance to re-use an old laptop.
