Q: Macbook Pro Retina 13" Severe lag / crash (10.10.2)

Yesterday I received a macbook pro retina 13" (2.6Ghz, 8gb ram, 256gb ssd).
Earlier, my macbook became extremely choppy (basically crashed, mouse cursor moved every 5 seconds), and the fan kicked in strong. I had to hold the power button to turn the mac off.
This was after I updated to 10.10.2 on the app store.
I only used my mac briefly the day before on the previous OS version so I can't judge whether it was the update that caused the problem or not.
The programs that I think were open: Chrome, iTunes, mail.

Has anyone had the same issue or does anyone have any suggestions as to what went wrong?

Hello Souvla,

It sounds like maybe an application or some other process was running in the background causing your MacBook Pro to run slow and the fans to kick on. Take a look at the article below for more information about how to isolate and stop it when you notice your Mac running slow.
