I hooked my iPhone 5s to my computer to transfer my music. However, anything from october to the present is now gone. pictures, contacts, all gone. they aren't on my computer either. help!

Did you try to restore from your latest backup? See what's included in the backup:

Although photos are part of the backup, you'll have to transfer them to your computer to be able to view them:
now anything since october of 2014 and on is gone
