The storage almost full message started popping up often last Thursday. I deleted videos, apps, etc. and it showed that I had 5G available. Then all of the sudden it was all gone and it showed that I had 0 storage available again. This repeatedly happens. What is going on?

it's not damaged data - it's a bug in IOS which has never been fixed. Log out out of the itunes store in Settings and wait 10 mins then log back in, and your storage should be back to what it should have been all along.
If it would be a bug, more users would have that problem. I have 3 different devices running iOS 8.1.3, and none of them has these issues.

No, no streaming at all, neither music nor photos.
Similar problem here, but I stream music. In the Settings/General/Usage storage says 0 bytes available, but earlier it said 1.8 GB. I have deleted 1 app and several photos...still says 0 bytes available.
Also, when I connected to my PC, a message appeared from iTunes. Could not sync with iTunes because memory is full.
Rippen, try going into settings, then "iTunes and App Store," then tap where it says Apple ID at the top, and choose Sign Out. Wait 10 minutes or so, and then sign back in. Hopefully you will see the storage space come back after doing that. it works for me.

Also, I have been deleting photos from messages...still says 0 bytes available.
Deleted 2 apps...still says 0 bytes available.
At this point I can not receive emails or texts, memory is completely full and phone is blearily functioning.
BTW, I have a iPhone 6 Plus, 16 GB
Set it back to factory settings and restore from the latest backup:

I have the same issue and this "fixed" it, but it doesn't address the underlying reason why, in my case, 90+ GB of memory was "used" when it shouldn't have been. It's a real pain in the butt to have to erase your phone and then restore it just because the iPhone has some issue that Apple apparently won't address.
