On January 13, 2015 iMessages just stopped sending and receiving texts on my 5th generation iPod touch. I have re-installed, updated iOS and everything else I can think of to reset iMessages including signing out and signing back in. Still doesn't work. I'm at a loss.

The best hope for you is to reset all settings on your IPod (Go to settings then general then reset). That is how I fixed it.

I also had this problem on my ipod 5. I had changed my date and time for a game i was playing. check and make sure that your date and time settings are correct and try again. after i changed my time setting back to normal it worked.
I have an old iPod Touch with old software that can no longer be updated:

I've been searching for a solution to my iMessage login problem for months and tried everything from those frustrating links and all the tips from other users.
Here is what finally worked:
1) Settings > Privacy > Location Services > On
2) Settings > General > Date & Time > Set Automatically > On
3) Reboot device until Apple logo appears
4) Settings > Messages > Sign In
