Feb 18, 2015 7:02 AM in response to colinfromadorby Kilgore-Trout,What "code"? To use Airplay between a Mac or iOS device and an Apple TV, you need to be on the same WiFi network and signed in to the same Apple ID. What code are you being asked for?

Feb 21, 2015 12:08 AM in response to vazandrewby geneshof808,★HelpfulI am having this same issue also and I have read all the materials. Yesterday my AirPlay icon disappeared from my menu. After reading through everything on the subject, I discovered that I could not obtain the most recent iTunes update because I didn't have Yosemite, so I updated to Yosemite today. The icon has come back to the menu (although I cannot see the icon on ITunes anyplace). Both the Apple TV and my computer are on the same wifi internet and they worked fine before.
When I try to turn on the Apple TV in the AirPlay Display box, I immediately receive a box titled "AirPlay Device Password" with an instruction "Enter the AirPlay code for 'Apple TV'". I never received this notice before when using Apple TV and my computer with AirPlay. I followed the instructions in the advice given in the community postings of this conversation. I cannot even open the code to enter one--it does not behave like the instructions indicate. I tried inputting a password in the password input at the Apple TV security to see if this would work. This listed as incorrect code when input into the pop up box. In Apple TV Security I have none checked off and nothing will come up when I hit the Code line and nothing is in the password link now.
But still the same box appears whenever I click on Apple TV, either in the icon on the menu bar or the display choice in System Preferences. When the code link is chosen on the Apple TV security, the explanation box to the left mentions that IOS users have to input the user code from their device, but nothing is mentioned about a computer. It is also confusing because the Apple TV security menu has a code and a password and the pop up box for the code uses "password" in the title and "code" in the instruction line and the input box. All the same, there is nothing in the code or the password links of the Apple TV Security.

Feb 21, 2015 3:17 PM in response to vazandrewby geneshof808,That made sense. I did that--took all the time to reset and first got couldn't connect to Apple TV message. Now the code message has returned.

Feb 21, 2015 4:17 PM in response to vazandrewby geneshof808,No, I think this is a result of upgrading to Yosemite and to the latest iTunes. How do you do a restore?

Feb 21, 2015 4:19 PM in response to geneshof808by vazandrew,Running fine on my system and I have seen no other reports so it's unlikely.

Feb 21, 2015 4:29 PM in response to vazandrewby geneshof808,Well colinfromador had the same issue. I have restarted, reset, etc. What is a restore? And why would it keep asking for a code when one hasn't been input. I have tried all of my passwords on the computer, Apple store, etc. Nothing works.

Feb 21, 2015 4:33 PM in response to geneshof808by vazandrew,Yes, but as I said I have seen no other reports (beyond the two here). Please see link above.

Feb 21, 2015 7:59 PM in response to vazandrewby geneshof808,Well I have no idea what is going on. I appreciate all of your support, but I have reset, restored and tried everything have read on this and still I receive either a cannot connect message or still the request for code box pops up. I also have not been able to find the Airplay icon in iTunes, and after the restore, the icon appears and then disappears in the menu line at the top of the screen. I have spent hours on this and still come back to square one. I hit the internet and other folks are having similar problems, if not the exact same one. Do you know if colinfromador's issue was solved? If so, I wonder what did it for him. Again, I appreciate your attention to this and your support. I'm just so frustrated right now, I'm wondering if I'll ever get this to work correctly again. Thanks again, Gene

Feb 21, 2015 8:09 PM in response to geneshof808by vazandrew,The issue of the icon disappearing is probably not related to this. The OP has not come back to post a response so I wouldn't be able to answer that unfortunately. I would take the unit to Apple for testing.
