Q: My macbook pro keeps flashing green lines across the screen then freezing, can anyone help?

Back in December my macbook started doing this thing quite regularly where it would flash black or green lines all across the screen, for maybe half a second, then the screen would freeze, so I would power it down manually then back on again. I took it into a store and paid a lot of money for them to "fix" it, but when I got it back it was still doing it. I just recently took it in to a different store and the guy said he couldn't reproduce the problem, but replaced the RAM and gave it back to me. Within a day of having it back the same thing happened, twice. At this point I'm not sure what to do, the money I spent on "fixing" it could almost have bought me a new one. The most recent time I shut it off, when it was turning back on it stopped on the grey screen with the apple and started making a continuous beeping sound, which I took a video of. Does anybody know why any of this is happening??

Hi Were you using the apple store for the repairs you had done? As to the point of taking in to a store to have it repaired and getting it back with the same problem. It should have been taken back to the same store as they have to stand behind what they do. You do not say what they repaired. The store replacing ram without knowing what the problem is ,is questionable. If you are going to change ram for the original apple installed ram, you need to make sure it is compatible with your MBP. One of the best sources for this is  Macsales.com. As to the Beeping sounds here is a link on it. You do not say if this is one continuing beep or more than one repeating itself.http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202768

It will help us diagnose your problem to know the exact model, size, year built, RAM installed and OS you're running.

    Hopefully it's not a 15 or 17" 2011 MBP.

    Hi my ginger,

We don't have an apple store where I live, so I took it into two specialty apple repair stores. I didn't return to the first one because a friend told me that they were notorious for charging way too much and doing nothing and that I should never go there. But you're right, I should have gone back to complain. They replaced my trackpad which apparently was having problems (doesn't seem any different to me) and moved some files onto an external hard drive,  I'm aware I was ripped off, but I guess lesson learned.

The beeping sound was 3 beeps followed by a pause, and then another 3 beeps, and so on.

    Spudnuty,

My mac is from 2012, OS X 10.9.5 (13F34), and it's 15". I don't know a lot about computers (as you can probably tell) so I'm not sure which RAM is installed

Hi. You said that you took it to another shop and had the memory replaced. If you read my link about beeps, you would see that your memory did not pass test on startup. I hope you have a receipt for the memory  as it needs to be changed.  That could be why it stops, as during startup it goes through  a system test. You need PC3 12800 1600MHZ SoDim 204pin memory. But it has to be MBP compatible. Just  to make sure. the beeps that you are hearing. Are they three  beeps/ pause/ three more beeps. Or three long beeps pause then three short beeps and then three long. If it is the last then it is an EFI corruption problem If the First it is memory.
