Q: Problem locating files which are using storage?
Afternoon, I'm trying to clear my Macbook air's storage. (I have emptied my recycled bin)
I can't find the files which my mac attributes these figures to. For example i've completely moved all my moves from my mac to my server, deleted all movies out of itunes and removed any MP4 files from Iphoto... I'm at a loss to how i've still go 9.36gb on my mac?
Same again with 'other' storage. I've deleted all large files apart for one coming to 20gb so I should have no more that 30gb, where is my mac finding 76.91gb?
In regards to my photo's, I can't seem to move them all onto my Icloud photo stream. I've paid for extra storage, I've set it up so that all new pictures go onto it but I can't seem to get my whole library on it. I've tried highlighting the images and dragging them across but this doesn't seem to work.
Any ideas on these problems would be very helpful.
Thanks James

1. Re-index Macintosh HD.
This will take a while. Wait until it is finished.
System Preferences > Spotlight > Privacy
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2409
2.Try OmniDiskSweeper. This will give the storage size details of the items.

Select Macintosh HD and click “Sweep Selected Drive” at the bottom.
Delete the files yo don’t want to keep.
Be careful. Delete only the files that can be safely be deleted.
