If I understand correctly, anytime you plug your phone into your computer to sync or back it up you get this error code 54. I would start by using the troubleshooting in this article, named:
Resolve iOS update and restore errors
If that does not resolve the error, then use the troubleshooting in this article for issues between iTunes and USB devices:
iTunes: Resolve USB-related alerts
