CarPlay vs Siri "Eyes Free"?

What's the difference between CarPlay and Siri "Eyes Free"? I thought Carplay was the improved next generation of "Eyes Free", which came after "IOS for the car". But now I'm confused.

I'd like to buy a new car with CarPlay this year, and I'm trying to find models that support it, or might support it soon. Hyundai seems to be claiming it will be in their 2015 Sonata model, but there seems to be some uncertainty about when or which models. I don't really want a Sonata, but the Hyundai Veloster seems interesting. According to a recent announcement, their 2016 model will support "Apple Siri Eyes Free"

I suppose only Hyundai knows what this really means, but I don't think it would be easy to find anybody at Hyundai to explain it. If "Siri Eyes Free" is just the previous incarnation of CarPlay, does it make sense that a new model would adopt the older technology instead of what's currently available? Or is "Siri Eyes Free" a still current alternative to CarPlay, with less features?

Car Play is the higher end version of Eyes Free. Car Play interacts with the cars Media Center, touch screen and Steering Wheel controls.

Eyes Free is simply a connection through Bluetooth to the Cars audio system.

One requires a Car Play compliant Media center and touch screen in the car, the other doesn't.

If the car you buy is a lower end model without a touch screen media center with CarPlay on it, then you only get Eyes Free through the Bluetooth connection.
