any way I can edit out applause from protected itunes download

Tried to edit out the live audience noise using 'get info' and changing the start/stop times but it was not allowed as they are protected AAC files. Is there any software that can fix this or can I copy it into another program and do it there.
I really dont want chunks of whistling and applause messing up my listening experience (why do they do they leave it on there anyway?!*) Help!

The only way I can think of is to burn an audio CD with the songs you want to edit, the re-import them into iTunes and edit their times. You could also use QuickTime Pro to edit the re-imported tunes.

Hmm... I just double-checked this with one of my purchased tracks and I was able to change the start and stop points no problem. I don't think the issue is that it's a protected AAC file... is there some other distinct characteristic of the track? This seems odd and (perhaps) buggy.

BTW: I'm right there with you on the live recordings...

Thanx to both of you for advice - I burned to disc and reimported the tracks and at that point I was able to edit out the applause.
Just f.y.i. apparently some itunes downloads are protected files and some aren't.
