Safari is locked up

Safari is locked up because of a Window that will not close. This window says "Your PC may not be protected" call Windows support at 1-877-592-3367. I did not call the number. I repaired disk permissions and rebooted the MacPro. The window prevents using Safari, the OK button just repeats the window. Not sure what to do, I can not access any Safari menu actions. I am using Firefox now.

I am not sure if going back into Time Machine and getting last weeks Safari would help. Frustrating.

Launch Safari with the Shift key held down. If that doesn't work, temporarily disconnect the computer from the Internet.

Safari locked up in a similar way on my iPad. I finally figured out that if I disconnect completely from the internet (airplane mode on the ipad), kill Safari and then reload it, it will be unable to load the offending web site. I then killed the tab for the offending site, and was back in business. This should also work for Safari on the iphone, Mac, or Windows, although disconnecting from the internet may need to be done in a different way.

A shame that information or lack thereof of these bogus but annoying ransomware attacks happen, are not protected (though I suspect Thomas Reed and Malwarebytes are closing in on it).

Those are two years old!

You will see and hear of AdwareMedic and Thomas Reed, well.... http://www.thesafemac.com/ sole owner of The Safe Mac and creator of the anti-adware program AdwareMedic for a few years now.

Malwarebytes goes Mac with new adware removal tool

The acquisition of AdwareMedic has given the company a new arsenal in combating Mac system infections.

Thomas Reed, AdwareMedic creator and owner, will join the company as Director of Mac Offerings to lead
Malwarebytes' team of Mac developers and researchers, who are attempting to stay ahead of the curve in a changing threat landscape
