Q: Problem in yosemite with image in signature field

I've always included a company logo with my signature field.  Prior to Yosemite I was able to select None and the signature and image would disappear.  However just upgrade to Yosemite and if there's an image in the signature field then selecting None does not delete the signature.  Selecting the signature again now duplicates this.   Selecting one of the other email account addresses I use used to delete the signature from the other email account address, now it doesn't.   this seems to only happen if there's an image in the field.  Text only seems to be fine, deletes when I remove it and doesn't duplicate when I change it.

Ideas?

Are you using a custom message template?

Hi  - thanks for the reply - If your referring to the template under preferences for signatures in Mail - yes.  And I'm just pasting in a jpeg of a logo.  I checked apple instructions for Yosemite mail and it's not any different from how it's always been - they tell you to paste or drag and drop an image.    getting it in there isn't the problem, it's how it behaves when selected when creating an email that is.

No, I mean a template for the whole message. If you don't know what that is, your not using one.

Please follow these directions to delete the Mail "sandbox" folder.

    Back up all data.

Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:

    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail

Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select

              Services Reveal

from the contextual menu.* A Finder window should open with a folder named "com.apple.mail" selected. If it does, move the selected folder—not just its contents—to the Desktop. Leave the Finder window open for now.

Log out and log back in. Launch Mail and test. If the problem is resolved, you may have to recreate some of your Mail settings. Any custom stationery that you created may be lost. Ask for instructions if you want to preserve that data. You can then delete the folder you moved and close the Finder window.

Caution: If you change any of the contents of the sandbox, but leave the folder itself in place, Mail may crash or not launch at all. Deleting the whole sandbox will cause it to be rebuilt automatically.

*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select

              Go Go to Folder...

from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

Hi there - I tried what you suggested but made no difference.  Works fine if there's no image in the sig. file but otherwise it won't delete or it duplicates if I click on the signature again.

thanks though - I didn't know about the Reveal command before - I appreciate your help.

You may be triggering a bug I haven't heard of before. Please create a new signature with a different image. It doesn't matter what's in the signature; this is just a test. Does the same thing happen when you select the new signature?

Tried creating something entirely new.  First tried just text and it works fine.  Then added a different image and the problems begin again.  No different from before.   I can absolutely tell you that this is Yosemite only because I've been using signatures since Jaguar and never had this happen.

Cool - we found a new bug.  Thanks for the help on this - what's the best way to communicate to Apple that this is a problem?

You can go here and drop your report into a black hole:

    http://www.apple.com/feedback/

Or you can sign up for a free developer account and file a bug report, with a slight chance of being told whether the issue is already known:
