Apple Mail 8 not saving my Sent items on an IMAP account

Apple Mail ver. Version 8.2 (2070.6) is not saving my sent items on an IMAP account. There is a big round black mark next to my Sent folder for that email account. I'm using Yosemite on a MacBook Pro. My other email accounts are fine but they are all POP accounts.

At one point, as I was messing around with my settings, I got an error message called MCMailErrorDomain error 1032" in case that is a relevant detail.

Any ideas?

Both of those were checked. So it isn't that. My sent items folder is empty so this is something that happened relatively recently as I look for stuff in there pretty often. I did switch to a new host for my website a couple months ago - it is that email address which is giving me this problem, but I think this problem developed more recently. Their tech support told me that I should try Thunderbird. Not what I wanted to hear... Do you think I should just delete the account in Apple Mail and try creating it again?

Linc,

First let me say, I notice now that I have two Sent folders for this account, both were empty. When I created my new mailbox in Apple Mail when I switched ISP's in January, it created subfolders called Draft, Sent, Junk and Trash. That must have been when my old Sent folder, which had the same name, went empty. Anyway this new Sent subfolder has never saved a Sent email. (And I think I just figured out that the black dot indicates it's an IMAP account because my other accounts are all POP and they have a little airplane next to them, not a black dot.)

To answer your question, when I was talking to the tech support at my ISP a few days ago, he told me to sign into the mail server from my webmail to see if the missing emails were there. No, that Sent folder was also empty. He had me "subscribe" my webmail Sent folder and now when I send a message from my phone or from Webmail, it shows up in my Webmail Sent folder AND my Apple Mail Sent folder. But when I send items from Apple Mail, it still doesn't show up in my Apple Mail Sent folder nor does it show up in Webmail.

At this point, I am just bcc'ing myself when I use Apple Mail to send messages from the account. Not cool. Any more ideas before I just delete the mailbox and start over?

Thank you all for trying to help me on this. It is fixed now. I tried so many different things that I am not sure exactly what worked. I think maybe because I changed the settings my new server required to some other settings they said might work. Also had to do some "Use This Mailbox For" to get folders to behave properly. Argh. Now I can get on with my life. Thank you!

abbyroz Feb 22nd post above has the key to the answer. I too had to change my email to an IMAP account within Mac Mail. After setting up, Mail was not keeping versions of my sent mail in the "sent" area. Instead, It created a new Sent folder nested within the InBox email folder. I clicked on this Sent folder and went under Mailbox/Use this mailbox as... and chose "Sent Mailbox" and Mail immediately moved the location of the Sent Mailbox down to next with the others under Sent Mail (Airplane Icon). I did a quick test sending from this account and voilá the Sent mail now shows up in the new Sent Mail box.
