issues with replaced 5th gen iPod touch...?

Hi, I'm still trying to restore my replacement iPod Touch 5th gen from backup. I had an appointment at 3:10 pm today, but the sync seems to be taking forever. According to iTunes, the latest backup was today at 3:51 pm. is there any way to speed the restore from backup up? this is my 2nd iPod Touch and this one seems to be slower than the first one I got, but, the old one used to have issues with picking up my right thumb, and this one hasn't had that problem yet. any suggestions? I've tried the DFW restore on the old one, but apps crashed very frequently after that, and mail was very buggy too. thanks!
