I have the aluminum remote.
It was working fine.
Then I starting having problems selecting letters in the search mode.
Now I can get the remote to move to the left or right it only goes up and down.
I cannot get to settings to try to repair the remote.
I have changed batteries.
I have unplugged the whole unit from the power and replugged it in after waiting awhile.
Help

I understand that your Apple Remote is not working when you press the left or right directions. It sounds like you have completed some great troubleshooting already, but I would suggest to read over the attached article for further information. a bottom work by pressing down on micro switches there would be 4 in this case up, down, left and right if one or more of those were defect and did not respond what you describe would be the result
