Q: airdrop not working?

Why can't my 2011 Macbook and my iPhone 6 see each other using Airdrop?

Macbook has airdrop.

iPhone has airdrop and it works to other iPhones.

Firewall on mac is clear.

iPhone is set to allow contact with everyone.

Bluetooth and Wifi tuned on, on both.

Yet they can't see eachother?

iPhone 6, iOS 8.1.3

Because the MacBook doesn't have Bluetooth 4.0; this wasn't added to new Mac models until the 2012 ones. This isn't correctable.

    Thanks Niel.

Thats annoying, there is nothing in any of the setup or how to pages on Apple Support that reflect this.

They simply say the if you have Yosemite and then airdrop that it should work.

It doesn't list anything about the year model of your macbook unless you are trying to use Airdrop from one Mac to another.

Why are the specs for airdrop different if sharing mac to mac compared to mac to iphone?

    thanks for the help.

    1. Click here and see the third entry under the first set of system requirements.

    2. Using AirDrop between two Macs doesn't require or use Bluetooth.
