Feb 18, 2015 9:12 PM in response to abb801by Niel,Because the MacBook doesn't have Bluetooth 4.0; this wasn't added to new Mac models until the 2012 ones. This isn't correctable.

Feb 18, 2015 9:22 PM in response to Nielby abb801,Thanks Niel.
Thats annoying, there is nothing in any of the setup or how to pages on Apple Support that reflect this.
They simply say the if you have Yosemite and then airdrop that it should work.
It doesn't list anything about the year model of your macbook unless you are trying to use Airdrop from one Mac to another.
Why are the specs for airdrop different if sharing mac to mac compared to mac to iphone?
thanks for the help.

2. Using AirDrop between two Macs doesn't require or use Bluetooth.
