Q: when I try to back up my iphone 4 on itunes a message pops up and says my phone cannot be found

I'm trying to back up my iphone 4 through itunes. It allows me to press back up now, and goes through the numerous steps, to complete the process. However, at the end of the final step a message pops up and says "_______'s Iphone cannot be found".

please help

iPhone 4, iOS 7.1.2
