I have several .mov files that used to work from the plug-ins in the browser. They no longer work in quicktime plug in version 7.7.6. The box comes up with the play, pause, etc. and the slider scrolls like the movie is playing - but there is no picture displayed. If I open the same file with the full Quicktime application itself, the video runs fine. I've tried multiple browsers on multiple computers and its always the same thing - nothing displays in the movie box but the movie slider moves like the movie is playing. Is there any fix for this?
emphasized in your question are what I see as the relevant points
- used to work - what has changed - if not the file(s), then what?
- the browser - what browser? what version? - again, what changed?
- tried multiple browsers on multiple computers - again, what browsers? what versions? what computers (with all their specs)?
If indeed the common denominator - the .mov file - has changed or is new, then try one that you know has not changed. Post a kink to a sample on DropBox or somesuch

Feb 20, 2015 1:04 PM in response to ChitlinsCCby spacegodzilla13,-Answers to your questions:
-The .mov files are the same that were used previously - they have not changed. What has changed is the version of the quicktime plug-in that the browsers are using.
- Browsers I have tried are Firefox (31.4 and newer) and Internet Explorer (Version 9 and newer). Older versions on my work computer (numerous desktops), up to date versions on my home computers (laptop and desktop).
- All computers I tried this on were running Windows 7

OK. Good info.
I am on a Mac. Link works fine in Safari - QT plug-in v.7.6.4. Firefox latest greatest is a no go as it and latest Chrome (probably others disable all plug-ins at launch in favor of HTML5, so I cannot test Firefox 31.4 - Mac = no QT, Flash, et al.
All that said, as I cannot test on Windows - and thus not the new plug-in we are able to provide some details for those that may follow here. To wit, we can inform them that your movie uses Sorenson Video codec
I do know that on the Mac - QT X has abandoned support for some legacy codecs. I do not know if Sorenson is one of them.
Here is something else you could test in the meantime... see how movies perform at different sites OR - better yet - change the codec of the sample movie to a modern codec and play IT from your web page. If the modern codec plays right, then you have gotten to the bottom of the problem - maybe not solved it, though.
I hope this has helped in some small way. Post back if no joy and I'll see if we can get our good friends QuickTimeKirk and/or Jon Walker involved - they are QT Gurus. I used to be on the bleeding edge of QT but that was a couple decades ago.

I tried the link on Windows 7 with IE 11 & Firefox 35 wouldn't play. It would save with QuickTime pro and play from the hard drive with QuickTime player. So it appears to be certain browsers not using plug-ins or add-ons in favor of HTML5 as you've mentioned.

Feb 20, 2015 4:41 PM in response to spacegodzilla13by spacegodzilla13,Thanks everyone for looking into this. I am a teacher at a community college and these videos are for one of my classes. The tech department is basically useless where I work and they would have no clue as to what to do. There are a lot of these videos and converting them may be too time consuming and it may take me some time to figure out how to do it. I could convert them to another format - but that might be a summer project. They do work if you open them up with Quicktime so in the meantime I will convert presentations over so that I embed the movies as links that open in Quicktime instead of opening in a webpage and trying to run in the plug-in on the webpage. It seems strange you can run them in Quicktime itself but they won't work correctly with the quicktime plug-in.
If anyone else knows of a quick fix for this or if anyone knows of a current bug in the plug-in, let me know - otherwise I have a lot of work to do over the summer.
Thanks again!

Feb 20, 2015 4:46 PM in response to Jacumbaby ChitlinsCC,Possibly. OP reports "controller" present and moving "playhead" button - that is NOT Plug-in disabled - one would get a message where a QT video was properly embedded on a commercial webpage (in the embed code) or another add-on for FF will automatically offer up an Open/Save choice to make dialog / alert then switch to QT as opens or Finder Save As dialog.
My $$ is on Sorenson Video codec no longer present, but it is exceedingly small amount of $$.

Feb 20, 2015 5:09 PM in response to spacegodzilla13by ChitlinsCC,Somehow I knew this was gonna be a big deal for you - I could sort of tell from your statements that you were authoring these web pages (one learns to read between the lines here).
The good news - or bad news - is that every consumer is different. That has always been an obstacle to media rich deliverables, although less so these days.
Re-authoring & converting are two different things. There are many low cost (or free - download from a safe place for either) conversion tools that would do them in a batch. Your biggest obstacle will be the Browsers themselves - learn HTML5 webpage authoring - maybe teach yourself in "night-school" as it will overtake you is you wait for Summer Break. Meantime, put up a "System Requirements" statement if you feel the need. You may be surprised that your audience is already dealing with the issue on their own. At least your job is not as big as, say, YouTube! (they are converting all their content pages as we speak)t
Best luck, amigo

Feb 20, 2015 6:10 PM in response to ChitlinsCCby Jacumba,
In Firefox the controller was present, but no video or audio. That's when I saved with QT pro. It seems browers have stopped the use of plug-ins. I've seen this before and QuickTime Kirk posted some good links on this. Kirk and Jon Walker could be of some help to the original poster as you mentioned. I'm mostly swapping out Windows hardware and the Windows OS. And now memory with QT...lol -
Feb 20, 2015 11:24 PM in response to spacegodzilla13by QuickTimeKirk,Apple has disabled browser plug-in support of QuickTime "legacy codecs" about a year ago. Local playback is not affected.
QuickTime 7 is no longer being developed for OS X or Windows and soon no browser plug-ins with the advance of HTML 5.

Mar 17, 2016 9:49 AM in response to spacegodzilla13by editorman1,you are not doing anything wrong, nor is there anything wrong with your files. apple has begun a serious illegal spying program, they are slowing forcing everyone to upgrade to el capitan that is LOADED with tracking codecs. you wont be able to email anything without a tag, videos, audio, etc. for example, i upgraded to el crapitan, and was not allowed to save a movie i edited to my desktop. i was forced to upload to a social media that requires an account. saving to desktop was out of the question. next example, i down graded my os to snow leopard, then itunes refused to open after a fresh restore. it was wanting me to upgrade to el crap again before it would open, so i found an older version that worked....back in business....so i thought. ok, 3rd attempt...i plugged in an iphone 6, got the movie off the phone. it worked on my computer, but when i tried to email it (no alterations or conversions), the guy couldn't open the same movie i copied from his phone. DO NOT UPGRADE TO EL CAPITAN, YOU WILL BE FORCED TO PAY EVERY YEAR FOR USEAGE, WINDOWS 10 is instigating the same thing, and all of it is loaded with tracking codecs.
