Q: why wont my car recognize my iPhone 6 when connecting with a USB to play music

Hey - I recently got an iPhone 6 and when I tried to use a usb port to play music in my car it says that it is not a supported device - why would that be and is there anything that can be done about it?

iPhone 6, iOS 8.1.3
