Does Apple Notes share across the Family Plan?

My wife and I use Notes to leave lists for the two of us. It makes commuinication pretty easy. It is at the point that she needs her own Apple ID instead of always sharing mine. If I sign up for Family Sharing, is Notes part of the shared apps bundle? I cannot find it listed as a shared app and would have to find something else to use in it's place.

i had the same problem. Apparently you can't do it through iCloud/ family, sharing. However, if you have an email account you both share, go into settings>mail, select that email account, turn on Notes. Then go into settings>notes and make that email account your default. If you don't have a shared email account, set one up In Gmail just for this purpose.

Howdy jchance,

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities.

From your post I see that you've been sharing your Apple ID in order to share notes, but your wife needs to have her own Apple ID. Family Sharing shares each other's iTunes purchases and creates a shared calendar, but it does not share the notes. If you'd like to learn more about Family Sharing, please see the article below.

We have done this using both a shared Gmail account and iCloud accounts.

We have found the best way is to create separate iCloud accounts and then use the 'share' icon to share the notes as in Share your notes - Apple Support. This way, it handles it well if you both update the same note at the same time. You can see the other person's edits appearing as you type.

If you share using a Gmail account then if you both update the same note at the same time then it loses some of the edits. We also used to use Simplenote for sharing shopping lists etc. and this worked quite well without losing edits, but now use iCloud as it works on all devices.
