Am I missing something (like using the Option key, or Alt key)...
If I hover my cursor over a point in a chart, I would expect to see the X and Y coordinates of the value in a floating text box.
This is not happening in Number Version 3.5.2.

Thanks, I am aware, but it is messy, especially if the chart has 100's of closely placed points in the graph.
I was expecting such a basic functionality, having been a serious Excel user for many years.
Ii takes many clicks and associated navigation around the Sheet to get this in Numbers, which looks OK in this small screen selection, but the chart looks "absolutely rubbish" with numbers attached to the whole plot.
Incidentally...
I exported this project to Excel, and was stunned to see just how accurate, and easy and complete the project turned out.

Am really getting to like Numbers versus Excel. Its a learning curve, but a very rewarding experience, once features and functionality is discovered, driven by the requirements of a particular application...

On b) you've got AppleScript. It's not built into Numbers the way VBA is built into Excel. You edit it externally via Script Editor. You can't activate an AppleScript with a button or user form; you have to trigger it from the menu or a keyboard shortcut. But it provides quite a bit of the functionality that VBA brings to Excel.

you can show X,Y values by selecting the series on the chart and checking the "Values" box in the chart Series Formatter :
You are not missing anything. Numbers does not show values when you hover over them. It would be nice if it did.
