Help! I downloaded the newest version of itunes and now it will NOT recognize my ipod. I've tried multiple USB cables and have gotten the same result. Any ideas?

After updating to the newest version of itunes, this week, my ipod is no longer recgonized by itunes. I've tried multiple USB cables, thinking that was the problem, and all have gotten the same result. I don't know what to do.
