Bridge Sagemcom DSL modem to use Time Capsule as WiFi

I recently changed my ISP to Optus (in Australia). They provided me with a Sagemcom F@ST 3864OP ADSL modem.

Previously, I had a cable modem from Telstra with the WiFi disabled and a Time Capsule connected to it by ethernet cable, which provided the WiFi.

How do I put the Sagemcom modem into bridge mode, so that I can use the Time Capsule as the network WiFi?

Thanks!

The Sagemcom is a dog to bridge.. email me and I will happily pass you a pdf I made up.

My email is on this page.. or in my profile.

From a power saving point of view.. and just size and well being over large.. the sagemcom must be the largest modem router physical size box I have seen.. a $35 TP-Link 8950N would be just as good.. And consume 1/4 of the power.

So it would pay for itself in a year.

Cheers

Thanks. I have exactly the same issue. I wanted to do the same with the large white cupboard from Optus after my small Netgear died.

If I buy the TP-link (more common is now for 49 $ the 8951N I see), How do I then make the modem ready to it uses my Time capsule as Wireless router. Also I have 2 new Apple Airport Extremes (the high white ones), as I have many dead spots in the hous, thick walls.........), will that work ? Is that modem easier to put that one in bridge mode ?

Thanks for your excellent advise !!

8950 is much better than 8951 which is trendchip.. do not buy them..

8960N is still only $45 .. look on ebay or MSY or Centrecom.. You must buy the exact model.. not the 8951 or 8961 because they are not the same hardware.

Latest MSY pricelist shows 8950N for $33 and 8960N for $42.

The Sagemcom is ok.. just a massively large and power hungry device when you need a tiny little unit.

I posted the bridge details on my website.

See the pdf down the bottom.

All of this is assuming you are on ADSL with Optus and can use PPPOE client in the TC..

So you simply do the setup of the TC go to the WAN setup and choose pppoe.

Put in your account name and password for your Optus login. Service name is not required.

In my experience it failed miserably.. so be warned.. PPPoE is not always successful on the apple router.

You create a wireless network.

You can then use extend wireless on the extreme to improve the wireless coverage.. but the Extreme still needs to be near enough to the TC to get good signal itself.
