Very slow loading on apple TV with high speed internet ?

Hi,

Have Apple TV generation 3. Up to two weeks ago everything was fine...I have ~55meg Internet.

Apply TV now wont load films or TV shows - it will load but extremely slowly....its showing 4 hrs for a standard definition film ?

My internet service provider hasn't changed.

My Ipad will play films as normal

I have rest the Apple TY unit back to factory settings and its still the same

the problem seemed to coincide with purchasing the James bond collection 3 weeks ago ?? Not sure if this has any bearing at all ?

Any shed any insight ?

Many Thanks

Hi - please try: press and hold Down + Menu for 6 seconds. This will do a restart from the remote. I have no idea why it worked for me. I unplugged/replugged and also reset and restarted several times from the settings menu, and neither helped. But - when I did the restart from the remote with press and hold Down + Menu for 6 seconds, my Apple TV started behaving like the old days and the TV shows and movies start right up. After two months of frustration I tried it, and it has been working normally now for about two months with no issues. It is worth a shot.

Same story here. Did all network troubleshooting and absolutely not my connection. Getting solid 22gb down and everything but apple works. Hbo go immediate hd streaming but itunes "Ready to play in 6hours 26 minutes". The joke is Apple wants me to pay them $29 for a support call to tell them their download servers are jacked. Better get fixed soon or off to Fire TV I go.

Occurs all the time for the last 10 days or so.

Speedtest confirmed via wired and wireless

DNS is on auto.

Reset did not solve problem.

Netflix on AppleTV works fine, as does Hulu.

More recently purchased AppleTV itunes movies will play

Older movies will not play within 10-300 hours of me asking for them.

AppleTV support was near useless and refused to admit the problem was with Apple network. Told me to come here.

Same problem.

yesterday when tried to play apple tv it says ready to play in 82 hours in HD and 7 hours in SD

Today, i am trying to download it on mac, and itunes says that it will be completed in 302 hours

Nba15k for my son's ipad air - still downloading since this morning.

i Am on uverse with speedtest constantly shown 18mbps download,

nothing was added or changed on my home network, netflix, amazon, hbogo, showtimeanywhere, etc all works fine.

uverse router shown uptime 40 days with no error packets

router restart, disabling firewall, resetting and restoring appletv did not help.

apple support suggested to bring appletv to apple store but that was before i discovered that mac and ipads have same issue.

last time it worked perfectly around feb 4, and app updates worked fine until yesterday afternoon.

ps

i tried it on wired and wireless - no difference

I have the same problem. It is interesting that movie trailers for new releases play immediately, but any past purchase will stay in the "Loading" or "Loading, ready in 1 minute" state and never progress beyond that point.

My connection speed is 18mb, speedtest indicates 14mb. I do not have any internet performance related problems with any other connected device.

This isn't rocket science and no, you don't need to be a network diagnostician running iStumbler. I get that some here are trying to be helpful, but it isn't really helping. I have an Apple TV 4 and it is slow as molasses loading screens, playing back, etc. I have a 63 Mbps downstream connection and 5 Mbps upstream. All other devices work just fine. You shouldn't have to jump through all of these hoops and network diagnostics just to get an Apple device to work in an environment where all other devices already function without any pauses, delays, or other issues.

I have similar symptoms with my new Apple TV trying to stream iTunes films. It is plugged directly into my cable modem and running speedtest (available on Apple TV app store) says I have 50mbps connectivity no problem.

Here's the interesting thing: if I kick of a speedtest from my phone or iPad (connected via WiFi to the same cable modem) then the Apple TV suddenly is able to download at a sensible speed for a few minutes. Similarly, if I stream an iTunes movie to my iPad while trying to stream a movie to my Apple TV then it all works well too. I understand networking pretty well but I can't figure out an explanation for this. Very very weird! Anyone else able to reproduce similar?

I have the same issue with our Apple TV. SpeedTest shows 86.6 Mbps, but Apple TV will work for a while, then the wheel starts spinning and it says it will be hours before the show will start up again. This only became an issue after Christmas. My operating theory us that Apple sold a lot of the new model and they weren't ready for the necessary bandwidth. Sometimes backing out to the main menu and restarting the show will do the trick, sometimes restarting the Apple TV will do the trick, most times nothing works. Anyone have a solution?

I have been having all kinds of trouble with an Apple TV in my bedroom that led me to this thread. We even had AT&T come in and update our system/router, etc to max speed. Still no luck with speed. I then moved my Apple TV away from our cable box and this fixed everything. Blazing speed and no more lag. I didn't see this mentioned prior so I would recommend playing with where your Apple TV is located. I am assuming there was some frequency interference even though my network connection was reading full signal strength.

This totally worked for me! Thanks! The normal reset didn't make any difference, it turns out that the hard reset is the way to go.. a bit confused at first when trying to follow the hard reset mentioned, "pressing down and holding menu"? I'm using siri remote and there is no way to press any "down" button.. so then I searched for "how to hard reset for apple tv" and found this from the apple support page:

Use your remote

Siri Remote or Apple TV Remote:* Hold down the User uploaded file and Menu buttons. Let go when the light on your device flashes.

Now my movie streaming works great as expected!
