Q: My iPad 2 won't connect to iMessage.

I changed my Apple password today and suddenly I cannot connect my iPad 2 running iOS 7.1.2 to iMessage.  No problem with my iPhone 4S.

I keep getting error messages that alternate between ID or Password are not correct (I am sure I am typing the right password and ID) and Network Error.  I have; reset my network settings, tried different wifi networks and to just use 3G, reset my iPad, powered it off and on and still cannot connect to iMessage.

I am able to use my new password on iTunes (phone app, computer app and internet through browser), iCloud, my e-mail accounts and all the other Apple programs that require my iTunes ID and Password seem to be just fine.

Any thoughts on how to get this one connection established?

iPad 2, iOS 7.1.2, WiFi, 3G, 32 GB White.

The network error that you are getting can be related to Settings>General>Date and Time>Set Automatically>On. Check that setting and also make sure that your time zone is set correctly.

I Read something recently about having to use two step authentication if you need to sign back into iMessages and Facetime. But I also think this only applies if you are ready use the two step authentication with yoyr Apple ID.

Take a look at Apple's support article here.

I confirmed that my time zone is set up correctly.  I have been using 2 step authentication for some time now.  And tried everything in the Apple Support article you referenced.  Still getting the ID and password don't match and Check your network connection error messages.

I also tried a Reset All Settings reset and that didn't help either.

I am going to try signing out of two factor authentication and see if that works.

I shut off 2 factor authentication and reset my iPad.  I went into Messages in Settings and tried to enter my password again.  I got the same Check Your Network Settings error message again.  So I shut off wifi and rebooted my iPad (hard reset) and went back into Messages.  This time the log in page was gone and I can now see the Messages on/off switch. I have not been able to see this since this problem started.  I was only seeing the log in page.

I thought great I can finally try to actually restart Messages.  But the switch doesn't work.  I can drag it to the right but it just snaps back to the off position.

Face time is still showing the Log in page not the on/off switch.

Have you tried signing out of iTune and the App Store, FaceTime and iMessages and then do the reset?

Not sure what actually caused it to start working again, but it seems to be working now.

I shut off 2 factor authentication

    I restarted my iPad

I cleared out the caches on Safari and Chrome (You never know what the browsers are attached to)

    I reset Network Settings

    and restarted my iPad again.

And now iMessage seemes to be working.

That's all that really matters, when all is said and done. I hope it continues to work for you.

So far it is still up and running.  I am thinking that the action that kicked it off was disabling and re-enabling 2 Factor Authentication.

    Thanks for your help.
