Why can't I delete AOL mailbox?

i Have an iPad mini just 2 years old. I am having problems deleting a mailbox that I created in my AOL .

i Tap edit then select the mailbox where it has the option to delete (in red) but when I tap the delete it simply returns to the home page, when I open AOL the mailbox is still there, what am I doing wrong????
