Q: No Apple ID on new phone.

I've been having a problem with a new iphone. I found out I'm logged out of AppleID, and when I go to appleid.apple.com to log in, it offers to send 2-stage SMS verification to my old iphone. There's no choice to choose between my old phone or my new one.

This has happened before when I first got my iPhone and activated. When I got the new iPhone, I plugged it into iTunes on my Mac, then decided to do a "Restore iPhone." It didn't take;

iPhone 6, iOS 8.1, Apple ID

Did you click on "Unable to Receive Messages on any of your Devices"? If you do that, you can enter your Recovery Key to get to the next screen.

If you lost (or do not have access to) the trusted device associated with your Apple ID

As long as you still have your Recovery Key and remember your Apple ID password, you can sign in and add a new trusted device to your account. You can also remove any devices you may have lost, sold, or given away.

    1. Go to My Apple ID (appleid.apple.com), select "Manage your Apple ID," and sign in.
    2. On the Verify Your Identity screen, select "Unable to receive messages at any of your devices?"
    3. In the pop-up window, enter your Recovery Key.
    4. Then, under "Edit your Apple ID," select Password and Security > Trusted devices > Manage.
    5. Remove the device you no longer wish to use to verify your identity.
    6. Either verify another device already listed, or select "Set up Find My iPhone" to add a new trusted device to your list.

No, I didn't . However, that still would beg the question of why it happened.

OK, just did it. Apparently it happened because I didn't 'verify' my new iPhone. So I just did the following as per this article: Apple ID: Can't sign in with two-step verification - Apple Support

And voila! my new iPhone is now verified. Yaaay!
