iMac (late 2013) WiFi Issues on Yosemite 10.10.2

Ever since I upgraded my iMac (late 2013) to Yosemite 10.10.2, my WiFi connection has deteriorated drastically to the point internet is simply unusable on my iMac. WiFi keeps disconnecting for no apparent reasons whatsoever. I have tried almost every solution discussed in several threads but no success. If you have experienced a similar problem and have solved the issue, please help.

Hi,

I had a lengthy discussion with Apple-Support about this. After a lot of diagnosing we came to the conclusion that the problem might be the way the WIFI-module of OS X 10.10.2 handles the different WI-FI communication standards (i.e. 802.11b, 802.11g, 802.11n...).

My router had been set to offer 802.11b, 802.11g and 802.11n depending on the standard supported by the device trying to communicate with the router via WI-FI. Now I've changed my router to offer only 802.11n - this seems to have done the trick. Now I'm no longer experiencing intermittent outages of the WI-FI-connection on the iMac. However you should keep in mind that this solution will only work for you if all devices you're using are supporting 802.11n or later (this standard was introduced in 2009).

Hope this helps.
