A program was downloaded on my Macbook from a thumbdrive that may have infected my computer. What should I do?

Macs cannot be infected by simply copying a file or inserting a drive. Are you seeing any strange symptoms?

It's best to describe the problem, if you have one, in as much relevant detail as possible, rather than what you think is causing it or how you think it should be solved.
We ran Sofos (sp?). It ran for hours. Finally stopped the scan. While Facetiming the screen was taken over and waves of colored lights took over the screen.
The link would have been helpful if I understood computer vocabulary. I think I need to find an Apple Store and see what they can do for me. I am just worried that personal information is being compromised by whatever was loaded to the computer from this thumb drive. The file was opened then deleted...I think.
