I have the latest version of iPhoto, as far as i'm aware I haven't changed anything.
I have a 2014 MacBook Pro, my photo's are on a NAS, everything worked fine the last time I used it a month ago, at most.
When I try to open the app I get;
I hit quit, then went to the upgrader and get;
Hit quit;
Hit Upgrade;
Hit Launch iPhoto and go back to picture one for another go!
Help please!

Do the following:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down to open the First Aid window. Be sure to follow the circled recommendation in the screenshot.
2 - run Option #4, Rebuild Database.

I tried to open iPhoto as you say but no joy. I have a MacBook Pro, so no option key but pressed alt + cmd, is this wrong?
I pressed the keys, kept holding them while double clicking the icon in the Applications folder, I didn't let go of the buttons for a good 30 secs but still nothing.

Alt = Option. Launch iPhoto with the Alt key held down and create a new library. Import some photos into it and test to see if it's working correctly. Then try the Command+Alt key combination again.

Didn't notice this the first time around. That is not where the iPhoto library should be located. Libraries need to be on an volume formatted OS X Extended (journaled) which is connected directly to the Mac. The following is from this Apple document: iPhoto: Sharing libraries among multiple users - Apple Support
It's recommended that you store your iPhoto library on a locally mounted hard drive. Storing your iPhoto library on a network share can lead to poor performance, data corruption, or data loss.
Hi, I also have this problem.
I can't seem to rebuild the library as you suggested, and have it stored on a hard drive connected to Airport Extreme.
I tried to copy the library to my hard drive (of MB Pro), but after hours of trying it fails stating "a file of the same name already exists". Tried renaming the library but that also didn't work.
Any ideas please?
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.>Click on the Add Library button,
2 - select the library you want to add from those in the selection window.
3 - make sure that in the rebuild window the checkbox "Scavange orphaned photos" is checked.
4 - now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
5 - in the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be created, i.e. on your boot drive. Click on the Create button.
Note 1: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments. However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost.
Note 2: Your current library will be left untouched for further attempts at a fix if so desired.
