dodda_rrr,

First of all, get the device inspected by an Apple Genius, who can determine the full extent of the water damage to your device. Who knows, you might get lucky. If the device is not functioning, or is damaged beyond repair consult the following:

If you have AppleCare, they will replace the device for $79 with tax, and that will use up one of your two incidents of accidental damage.

If you do not have AppleCare, but are inside your one year warranty (which you are because the iPhone 6 has only been out for almost six months) you are still out of luck. As stated by Apple's legal documents on hardware warranty: "This Warranty does not apply: (d) to damage caused by accident, abuse, misuse, liquid contact, fire, earthquake or other external cause." You will have to buy a new phone as Apple does not cover your particular type of damage.

Keep in mind that you may have warranty through your mobile carrier, or through the credit card that you purchased the device is. Be sure to check if you have warranty outside of Apple, it may save you the purchase of a completely new device.

Best of luck,

Nick.

Don't feel alone dodda_rrr. Same exact thing happened to me yesterday (2/23/15) I have Apple Care, live chatted, told them what happened and have an appointment this afternoon. Rhythm and Rhyme is correct. Apple Care will cover it. Did you ever get yours to work?

24hrs after I tried air drying it, shaking drops out and letting it sit plug side down, it actually started working when I plugged in my off brand charger off my work laptop over 2 hrs ago. I got the empty cell charging symbol and within 5min the APPLE Icon came up and then my screen saver. It has been 2 and half hours as I type this now and I have been able to text, take pictures, Voxer, check email, weather and let me pause to browse safari........just browsed several sites and seems to be doing ok. If I didn't know I dropped it in the toilet ( may I insert here, DO NOT USE THE NECKCHAIN IPHONE 6 holder from BBB) I would be none the wiser as it is acting like it did pre toilet plunge. And according to a webpage I found on how to treat an Iphone with water submersion, I did everything you were not suppose to, ie blow hot air into openings, hit wake up button, and plug charger in.

I did not take the phone apart though. After shaking out the drops til I saw no more, then accidentally hitting the wake button (ATTENTION APPLE, Put the On/off button back ON TOP!!!!) I saw my screen turn on with a text message. So I thought, great, but after more hot air drying and then sitting in warm place for an hour I brought it to my desk, hit wake button and got Apple Icon but a screen would never appear and APPLE icon faded. I then proceeded to plug charger into it and got APPLE Icon to come up, then same fade. After 15min of this I could no longer get anything on the screen. Got home last night and tried plugging in the Apple charger cord that came with the phone and NOTHING. Brought the phone with me to work, and about 2hrs ago said, what the heck, I will plug the off brand charger cable into it and WAHLAH!!!

Now, I am going to keep my appointment with the Apple Store to get their analysis, but it appears my IPHONE 6 may have survived a 2 second water submersion by simply shaking the water out and letting it sit for 24hrs.

I hope all reading find this helpful and hope dodda_rrr has/had a similar success story. I will follow up on this post after meeting with Apple Techs.

Darko is correct. If you have Apple Care it would cost 79.99 as one of your allowed 2 incidents of damage/liquid. And yes, have them check it.

In a follow up to my earlier post yesterday 2/24/15, I kept my appnt with the Apple Store, the rep took my phone to the back to open it up and make sure there wasn't anymore moisture even though the phone was miraculously working. He came back within minutes and told me all looked good and that even the water indicator had not been activated!!! Not sure how that is possible, but I will chalk it up as an act of God that my phone still works after a 2 sec dive in the toilet and a 24hr dry out period.

So yes, take it to Apple because you never know.

So my phone survived a verrrry long submersion, dropped my iPhone 6 in the loo too.........screen got stripes and crazy funky patches. Immediately powered it off, shook all the water out removed my sim card. Placed it in a zip lock bag of rice and left if for 24hrs. Tried to turn it on and nothing, tried the apple charger no success, tried a non apple charger and the battery symbol appeared..........yay, left it and then nothing......so I left it off for two more days and tried again this morning....Yay, success. Mobile now working.

Soooo happy - thanks for the advice on non apple charger.

While you can get an out of warranty repair, or use one of your AppleCare+ incidents for a liquid damaged iPhone, there is an exception. A repair cannot be made on an iPhone that has been dropped in the toilet.

When they replace your device, they take your damaged one in return. If it's fallen into a toilet, even if there's only water there, it's considered to be a biohazard, which means they cannot accept the device. For this reason they're not able to do a repair of any sort.

It voids your warranty, as well as your AppleCare+ agreement. The only resolution to this would be to buy a new phone.
