Archos AV500

I am having trouble importing video from my Archos AV500 into iMovie. I recorded some video on my av500 (2mb file) using the TV Pod. I coped that file onto my mac. First problem is that it doesn't play very well. The video is good, but the audio is choppy. The file is an mpeg4 avi. I thought mpeg4 was supposed to be standard? Anyway, It plays fine on my Windows machine. Also when I try to import it into iMovie, the app just crashes. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know.
