Q: apple tv shows up in iTunes on mac, but does not connect to home sharing

I can see the airplay option in iTunes, but when I go to apple TV and try to connect to my mac with home sharing tells me there my mac needs to turn on home sharing. Home sharing is on in my mac and in my apple tv. not sure if it might have something to do with norton blocking apple tv or what?
