i wonder if someone could give me some advice.
When I stream something like netflix on my Apple TV all is ok but when I want to stream it on my iPad and send it to Apple TV it constantly buffers and is unwatchable really. Both are up to date on latest versions and are relatively new (iPad Air and Apple TV 6 months old).

thanks for your reply. I should have added it's all services from my iPad (netflix, Now TV, Amazon Prime) but all work fine from my iPhone so it can't be anything to do with the router and wifi connection.
It may be working fine on your phone, but that doesn't rule out a network issue.
Try connecting Apple TV via ethernet
To see a status of your wifi network you can get a report by going to istumbler, netstumbler or similar. Look for signal strength, noise, nearby networks.
