Why won't iDVD create chapters?
I'm using iMovie "09" and iDVD.
I created an iMovie project with chapter markers. When I try to create a DVD project, selecting a Theme with chapters, the chapters do no appear...only the full movie.

How are you getting the movie from iMovie 09 to iDVD? Try exporting it out of iMovie at Size=Medium, 640 x 480,
and then add manually to the iDVD menu.
Or export to the Media Browser via Share ➙ Media Browser menu option:
See if that will create the submenu in iDVD with the chapters listed.
I called Apple...Yosemite doesn't permit chapters and Apple no longer supports iDVD.
You can still use iDVD for themes and burning.

iDVD still works with iDVD and you can use an earlier version of iMovie to create chapters. If you have an iLife 08, 09 or 11 disk you an do a custom install of iMovie and create the chapters with it.
iDVD can add chapter markers but only at uniform intervals which you can set.

I did try iMovie 09 and was able to create chapters, but Yosemite said no. How would I "work around" Yosemite?
What good are chapters at uniform intervals? I need to place them at various places.

Was iMovie 09 compatible with Yosemite? I haven't used that version with Yosemite so don't know. If it is then how did you try to get the movie to iDVD? With that version I believe you can use the Share ➙ Media Browser menu option.

It does work, and sets chapters but IDVD wouldn't accept the chapters.
iDVD did accept the basic movie (without chapters) so I was able to burn the DVD.
How did you get the movie from iMovie 09 to iDVD? Try exporting to the Desktop as a medium sized Quicktime movie and add it manually.

Just for fun opened iDVD and dropped an .mp4 file into it.
It did divide up to two Chapters automaticly. I never set any Chapter mark to this file.
And I figure about - if there is a setting somewhere for minutes per Chapter as in Roxio Toast ?
But couldn't find any settng.

Hmmm...interesting, but what good are time settings (uniform intervals) when you need to set chapters at various locations throughout the video?
I really liked chapters...I hope Apple re-permits their OS to use them.

No of course - just an observation I found interesting.
I'm still in Mac OS X.6.8 - so Chapter Marks from FinalCut works well for me - Yes stone age I know.
Still I get what I want - of more interest to me.

Go into the Map mode, select the movie there
and select the Advanced ➙ Create Chapter Markers for Movie menu option
Then you can set the Chapter length in 1 minute increments:
I think that I know the answer, but...can those markers then be moved?
If not, what good are they? When would you use timed markers?

I create chapter markers using iDVD and Yosemite all the time, (I use iMovie HD 06 and iMovie 11). It works perfectly.
Apple is supporting iDVD on this forum. Moreover, sometimes Apple employees answer iDVD questions on this forum.
That's great!...certainly not what the Apple Care rep told me.
I'm wondering if Apple decided to again allow chapters in iMovie 11.
I guess I'll have to get it.
