How do you deleted "recovered files" in trash?

How do you deleted "recovered files" in trash?

I keep getting "recovered files" folders in the trash, which I cannot delete when I try to empty the trash. I get a "files cannot be deleted" response.

MacBook Air, OS X Mavericks (10.9.2)

Try force quitting finder (causes it to relaunch) and see if you can then delete, or log out then back in and retry.

This didn't work - I got a response that the items are "locked"

I found a support page from Apple: You can't empty the Trash or move a file to the Trash - Apple Support

this worked - holding down the option key while hitting the empty trash button
